Spinal Manipulation and Chiropractic Adjustments
The cornerstone of our office, Dr. Sharon Buerker has been providing chiropractic care for over 30 years.
Dr. Buerker graduated from the National University of Health Sciences in Chicago, Illinois in 1982 and then completed her chiropractic orthopedic studies in 1998, becoming certified with the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists (DABCO). After graduation, Dr. Buerker entered into practice with her father, Dr. Roy Allard learning his self-developed, specialized treatment, which she continues to practice to this day.
When the correct manipulation technique is applied, it is a safe procedure. A history of spinal surgery, osteoporosis, healed fracture, disc herniation without significant or progressive neurological deficit, scoliosis, chronic arthritis, degenerative changes including stenosis or joint instability, are not absolute contraindications to spinal manipulation.
Absolute contraindications are severe or progressive neurological deficit, infections or malignancies, acute bone demineralization, acute fracture/dislocation or acute arthropathies.
Also please note that a contraindication to spinal manipulation in one area of the spine does not mean another area can not have manipulation. Techniques can be modified to accommodate a patient's tolerance and if not it is withheld.
