Chiropractic Treatment for Sciatica

Sciatica is regularly treated with chiropractic procedures.

Addressing Sciatica

Sciatica is a fancy name that simply means pain along the Sciatic nerve. This is the large nerve running down the length of each leg. Sciatic pain originates from the nerve being compressed. This compression can be from several causes: disc herniation or bulges, inflammation, tumors, or a mechanical cause as simple as sitting on a wallet in the back pocket for extended periods of time. Typically, an area of compression at any point along the sciatic nerve can lead to a host of sensations: achy pain, pins and needles, dull or sharp lancing constant pain making sleep difficult.

A Doctor of Chiropractic will seek the underlying cause of your nerve compression and then work to alleviate it.  Diagnosis of the problem can be achieved by examining a patient's medical history, using diagnostic tests (x-ray, MRI, CT scans, etc), or via manual joint examination.  After diagnosis an adjustment or exercise program paired with at home conservative treatments such as heat or cold treatments may be needed to aid in your recovery.
